AFTERNOON WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

May is resolution month for WIs and this year the subjects for discussion were the banning of trawling in the bottom of the oceans as it causes catastrophic loss of marine life, and inappropriate imprisonment of people with severe mental health problems. After discussion members voted in favour of both resolutions while giving discretion to the representative at the AGM in Liverpool on the first resolution whose wording may be slightly altered.

To end the meeting members were asked to give their anecdotes under the heading "It's a Small World". The coincidences which this brought forth were both entertaining and amazing!

On the 13 May the Annual Fish and Chip Lunch was much enjoyed. After lunch Dawn Nex gave an enthralling and informative talk on the Amish Community of America, illustrating her talk with various artefacts. Members of Hagley Afternoon were pleased to welcome members from Blackwell & Burcot and Cofton Hackett WIs with whom we are tripleted for this year to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Worcestershire Federation of WIs.

Arrangements for the Coffee Morning in aid of Mary Stevens Hospice at Hagley Community Centre on Saturday 13 September at 10.30 a.m. are well under way.

Members look forward to several outings during the summer months as well as some interesting meetings with speakers ranging from Craft Collections and Slaying Dragons(!) to the Titanic!!.

Meetings are on the 2nd Monday in each month (except August), 2.00 pm at the Community Centre when visitors and prospective members are made most welcome. If you think you might like to join us please either come to the Community Centre or telephone me on 885215
