AFTERNOON WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
The January meeting had to be postponed because of the snow but there was a good turn out the following week—when fortunately the snow and ice had cleared—to hear Jacky Smith's wide-ranging and stimulating talk on New Zealand and the Hagley Connection. She spoke of the geology, geography and settlement of New Zealand, and of her own introduction to the Maoris and their history and culture. With her slides of archive photographs, newspaper articles and early settlement documents, and the beautiful photographs from her visit to the South Island—including Christchurch, Lyttelton Harbour and Hagley Park—it was a fascinating afternoon.
Looking ahead to the coming months, Graham Sutherland will talk at the meeting on Monday 8 March on Wicked Women and on Monday 12 April Dave Smith will demonstrate how to plant Hanging Baskets in preparation for the summer. In addition to our regular meetings, on Saturday 17 April there will be an indoor Car Boot Sale in the Community Centre. Our meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 2pm in the Hagley Community Centre—we are very happy to welcome visitors.
