HAGLEY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL

As part of our Arts College Status, we had the opportunity to give our guests from Halas House another enjoyable event in February. Thirty plus members of the Gateway group came to Hagley to take part in an art evening to design and make a fabric cotton bag. A professional artist was employed to teach our guests and they were ably assisted by our students. In February, Year 11 had the opportunity to work with artist Jennifer Collier to produce a variety of different pieces of work, experimenting with found and recycled materials. They spent half a day learning new and exciting techniques.

A group of students have visited Oxford University already this year as part of our Aim Higher project which encourages students to make full use of their abilities. The Challenge Team visited school to present drama and activities designed to develop a chaste attitude to sex and relationships for students in years 9 and 10. The school's Eco group has begun work on the construction of a school pond which will adjoin the Eco-Garden. Vegetables grow well in this sunny spot. They are bought and enjoyed by staff so that the money can be used to develop the project. Students benefit in a variety of ways and learn the importance of sustainability and respect for the environment.
