HAGLEY CHESS CLUB
The AGM was held on 2 May, when we reviewed the past season's activities, presented trophies to competition winners and planned for the future.
The meeting started with one minute's silence in memory of Reg Beasley, our Chairman and 2nd team captain, who died in March after a short illness; he will be greatly missed by the Club. Tony West acted as Chairman for the meeting.
The 1st team (Captain Francis O'Gorman) in the Worcestershire County League Division 2, won 2, drew 3 and lost 3 games. Our position in the leage is unknown at the moment.
The 2nd team in the Dudley & District League Division 3, won 2, drew 3 and lost 4 games. We finished in 7th out of 9 teams. In the 2nd team we are trying to involve less talented players with lower grades and next season we would like to encourage some of the younger members to play in the 2nd team.
The Keith Dodd Memorial Cup, which is awarded to the most successful player in the club was won by Francis O'Gorman.
A Summer Chess Group has been organised to run on alternate Friday evenings, open to anyone who is interested in playing chess, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the following dates: 4 July, 18 July, 1 Aug and 15 Aug. This is open to anyone whether they have played chess before or not and IT'S FREE. The Group is holding its sessions at the Hagley Free Church rooms, so just turn up or contact Andrew Moore on 0778 990 4835.
