HAGLEY CHESS CLUB
The Chess club re-opens on 4th September for the new season, and we are fortunate to have as our Chairman and First team Captain Andrew Moore who is an English Chess Federation Coach. Andrew also took charge of the second team when their Captain had to cease playing for family reasons. Under his leadership we have had two successes; the first team won the Worcestershire County league Division Two Trophy, and also a combined first and second team won the Worcestershire County Handicap Knockout Trophy. This is a new competition and we are only the second club to have won this trophy; Stourbridge being the first club.
We are always looking for new members irrespective of gender, all ages are welcome as indeed are all strengths. We can cater for the strongest, the weakest, and beginners. Coaching is available for any who feel they might benefit from it, and this includes experienced players as well. There are five competitions for all members to play in during the year.
We have a thriving junior section consisting of six members who play in their own league. They can also compete in the other five competitions as well if they choose to do so.
We meet from 7.00 p.m. onwards each Friday evening in an upstairs room at the Hagley Free Church. Free parking is available to the rear of the premises, access being via Chapel Street.
