GIRL GUIDING WALTON DISTRICT
Our Centenary Celebrations are well under way and the girls will be involved in special events at Regional, County and local levels. In our unit meetings in Walton District, activities have been planned so that all girls achieve the ‘Adventure 100 Centenary Challenge Badge’—a specially commissioned badge for Centenary Year. To achieve the badge, girls undertake challenges and activities from ten sections; each activity carries a number of points and the aim is to gain at least 100 points in the Centenary Year—a number of girls are already on their way to their total.
Some of the activities undertaken so far have been:
- Rainbows—making dream catchers and looking for constellations in the night sky;
- Brownies—completing the ‘Brownies Traditions’ badge, having a ‘Sausage Sizzle’ in the dark at Kinver Scout Camp and making chocolate hedgehogs as part of a ‘nocturnal animals’ theme evening;
- Guides—composing radio jingles that were broadcast on Bridge FM and holding a Promise Ceremony at the Centenary Exhibition in Hartlebury Museum.
This is a special year for us and for all the girls involved in Guiding in Hagley, Walton District. You never know when you are making a memory and we hope that the girls will have many happy memories of this Centenary year.
None of these events would take place without the time and effort given by our voluntary Guiders, but we are always looking for more. Join us as a leader – it could be just what you are looking for.
