HAGLEY ROTARY

The new Rotary year started on 1 July and the outgoing President Derry Millington says:- “My second term as President was just as enjoyable as my first time in 2003. It really is the best job in the club, as the support given by all the members is fantastic

The main social events have been: Garden Party Barbecue, Ballet at Malvern, Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb and the President’s Weekend in Llandudno. Our fund raising events were:- Christmas Street Collections, Cabaret Night and a Barbecue at the Hagley Fete. During the year we raised a total of £6,500, which has been distributed to the following charities: DEBRA, Farmers Overseas Action Group, Rotary Wheelchairs for Romania and Elizabeth Attwood Centre. I’m very pleased indeed that we gained a new member, Victor Smith. Paul Matthews is taking over this month; I wish him well and hope that he has a very successful term of office.” The new incoming President Paul said “Many thanks to Derry for all his efforts in giving us a great year. I have the following main aims:-

  1. Stability/Continuity – Barry Nicholls will be my Vice-President and take on the Presidency next year. Ian Robinson will be junior Vice-President.
  2. Membership – we must find some new members; our target is a net increase of two.
  3. Funding our Charities – my main charity this year is Alzheimer’s. I’m sure everyone has been touched by this cruel disease and the more we can do to find a cure the better.
  4. Fun and Fellowship – this is extremely important since without fun and fellowship we would not improve membership and would be a poorer organisation.
  5. Events – I want to ensure that there is one main, important speaker per month. Events already in the programme are:- Ladies’ Lunch, Hagley Fete BBQ, Garden Party, Visit Morgan Car factory, Concert, Christmas Street Collections, President’s Weekend and the Rotary International Convention in Birmingham.

I look forward to leading the club during this our 30th year and hope that you will all support me.”
