During September, on a warm day, we will look through the bees for the last time this year to make sure they are strong enough and heavy enough to get though the Dormant Season and into March.
Weak colonies are united with strong ones by putting the weak brood on top of the strong brood separated by two sheets of newspaper. By the time they have chewed their way through the paper they are one colony.
The Water Balsam in The Sweetpools has been a bonus again this year. We know they have been to the Water Balsam because the flower dusts each bee with grey pollen. The bees fly home looking like ghosts.
