Current news from Hagley Art Club

Hagley Art Club

So, the club continued with its high calibre of visiting artists with the April offering of Martyn Harris, (entrant in both Landscape and Portrait Artist of the Year on Sky Arts) with an extremely traditional and beautiful landscape in oils; contrasted with another established traditional artist but this time delivering a contemporary interactive demonstration in collage, shape and colour.

June is extremely busy with the club contributing to the Jubilee celebrations, with a members exhibition in the Community Centre and then, a first for Hagley with Maya Brown and Magic Wool Art. July sees Mark Warner demonstrating Seascapes in Acrylics. Of course, with (hopefully) warmer weather coming, the club hope to have some en plein sessions again at Trinity Farm and other places, look out for notifications on our Facebook page or website.

Hagley Art Club

Hagley Art Club owes its existence to the late Alan Pritchard, and a handful of his friends, becoming formally recognised in 1989 to be the large organisation it is now. A thriving and friendly club of around 70 enthusiastic members we welcome anyone with an interest in Art to join us every 2nd Friday of the month at St Saviour’s Church in West Hagley. Whatever your interest or medium may be, whether an accomplished practitioner or an enthusiastic ‘dabbler’, there are lots of opportunities to spend time with others who share your interests.
Monthly Meetings

The monthly meetings held on the 2nd Friday of the month (unless it clashes with Easter) attracts a high calibre of artist/practitioners well known in the art world including international recognised guest such as Pollyanna Pickering and Oliver Jones. These sessions are free to members but also open to visitors for a small charge presently £4
Painting circle

In addition there is a painting circle held every Tuesday afternoon held at Churchill Village Hall as an informal opportunity for people to get together and paint. There is a nominal charge presently £2
Public Exhibitions & Workshops

Members are all invited and encouraged to enter their work in several public exhibitions during the year, including Harvington Hall, Kinver Village Fayre, Russell’s Hall Hospital and our own Annual Exhibition at Hagley Community Centre, where they may be purchased by the general public.

Workshops take place during the year, usually two but sometimes three of these and they concentrate in more detail on specific mediums or techniques and are tutored by specialists in that field. The costs are kept deliberately low in the region £15 and £20, The programme organisers are always looking for new and interesting fields to explore whether it is traditional watercolour, pastels, Chinese painting, life drawing or even en plein air. So most interests are met but if anyone comes up with something really different they will endeavour to seek that one out!
